How much concrete do I need?
The Smiths Concrete calculator
To calculate how much concrete you need for your project, enter the length, width and depth of the specified area into our concrete calculator. Once you have your answer, remember to add 10% to allow for wastage.
If you have a large or complicated area to estimate, it may be easier to split it into sections and build up the total calculation.
Delivery of concrete
Delivery trucks and concrete pumps
We operate two sizes of delivery truck – delivering up to 6 cubic metres and 8 cubic metres of concrete – and it is important to ensure that there is enough room on site to accommodate them. The largest is 8.7 metres long, almost three metres wide and four metres high and weighs up to 32 tonnes. Full information about our delivery trucks click here.
If the site can’t accommodate a truck – or access to the pour area is an issue – you may need to hire a concrete pump. They are also perfect when you are dealing with large volumes of concrete or when time is tight.
There are two main types of concrete pump. The most common are ground line pumps, which take the material from the delivery truck, via a series of pipes, to where it’s needed. They can cover distances of 150 metres or more and can be run around obstacles and through buildings where necessary. The second type are boom pumps, which have a hydraulic arm to lift the pipes up and over objects such as walls and houses to enable the concrete to be delivered to harder to reach areas.
We are not able to supply concrete pumps, but they can be hired from:
